Is the roland kick showing maxlvl of 300 using max gain?

This is how I set the velocity/gain of a pad.

Set gain to 3
Set Threshold to 30
Select Autohighlvl yes/no/yes (this will reset highlevel to 64)
Strike the drum hard around 10 to 12 times (Try to keep the strikes at the same velocity of the hardest you would hit during your normal playing)
If level is <600-800 increase gain by 1 and repeat.
If level is >900 then reduce gain by 1 then repeat.
If gain is set to zero and the level still remains >950 then your pads are hot and you will need to add a potentiometer to your input.
Once high level is set to between 600-800 change AHL to no.

no, I did not use max gain for the kick, I just tried it with my gain at 8, threshold at 50 and get a hilevel of 500 now. Still to low.

macca2004, I've been struggling to to come up with a straightforward yet effective instruction on how to configure pads/kits with MegaDrum.
Looking at your suggestions I must say you have a very good understanding of what MegaDrum settings do and you describe/explain them much better then I possibly could. If you find spare time and feel like to write an instruction on configuring MegaDrum, will it be too much of trouble if I ask you do it? I would publish it on the website (with all the credits of course) and I'm sure it'll be appreciated by all MegaDrum users.

So I've been trying to solve this issue with the kick input and have determined that there is nothing at all wrong with the megadrum, it's the design of the Roland KD-8 kick trigger. I have a OSP-dd502 module that I originally tested the kick on and it had a really weak signal, in fact I had to damn near put my foot through it to hear the slightest sound trigger. This got me thinking that the input must be way to cool for the megadrum and I had to run at a gain of 8 , hilevel of 350ish and a curve of log 3 to get a sold triggering kick bass which was very limited in dynamic range, more or less all or nothing. I would consistanly get a random loud kick trigger while very lightly kicking the KD-8 with every possible trigger setting I tried apart from max velocity, I should note here that the other problem is that I us a double kick pedal and I can't hit dead center on the KD-8. I have made a patch cable to reverse the polarity of the KD-8 kick pad and low and behold it works very very well now. I have it set to gain 4, hilevel of 750 and linear for my curve. I have not experiance a spike in the kick input since this change was made and so I suggest to any users of the KD-8 with double kick to do this mod, I promise it will be worth it. 8-)
