Hi-Hat Trigger Input

Postby macca2004 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 2:41 pm

By now you can probably tell that i'm trying to properly setup my hi-hat pedal!! :lol:

A big problem I have at the moment is with the actual hihat cymbal. The pedal is working quite nice :D

I cant seem to get the zone seperation to work on the hihat input as well as the other inputs. I have Yamaha and millenium cymbals, both 2 and 3 zone. These have been easy to setup on the other inputs especially since the problem with Yammie 3 zone was sorted.

What I find with the hihat input ,is that seperation is difficult to acheive. Playing on both the edge and the bow gives mainly bow notes mixed with random edge notes triggered mainly from high velocity hits >60. This is regardless of wheter the pedal is plugged in or not.

I have setup my pedal as follows

ChickDelay = 0
Lowlvl = 45
Highlvl = 160
Open Level = 31
Closed Level = 93
ShortChTh = 105
LongChTh = 25

This works well.....basically from pedal position 0-31 an open midi note is sent (46B or 26E), between 31 and 93 a half open midi note is sent (45B or 25E) and anything above 93 is a closed midi note (42B or 22E). If I switch the cymbal to single zone the required three midinotes (46/45/44) are sent no problem. But when I switch to dualzone the numbers sent are inconsistent.

These are the midi numbers I have setup to trigger. (They are the same as TD20).

Bow Edge Bell
Closed 42 22 0
H/Open 45 25 0
Open 46 26 0 (This is set in the Hihat trigger input section)

Hihat trigger settings

Bow Edge
Threshold 20 49 (threshold of edge set by aftertouch message)
Gain 3 4
Highlevel 450 600

Dualzone? YES
Type Switch

I have tried.

1) Changing threshold levels on the hihat...along with different gain levels on the edge.
2) Changing Chick Short/Long Thresholds to 0 & 127
3) Changing Pedal Open/Closed levels to 0 & 127
4) Disconnected the pedal cable completly.
5) Turned from foot controller to pot.
6) Tried different cymbals in same input. Both Millenim 2 zone and Yamaha PCY

Nothing seems to have any effect at all...

Help please!!

Dmitri...when you have time could you plug your Yamaha PCY into the hihat input and see if you can repeat this?

In the latest firmware you can assign any input to HiHat. Did you try it? Did you still have the problem?
