This kit with megadrum

Postby EURO » Sat Sep 05, 2009 12:55 pm

What do you think? Is it overkill for MegaDrum or will the module give me everything I need from the kit? I'll be connecting to my PC via midi for Superior Drummer 2.0

2x ROLAND PD-125BK 12" V-DRUM PAD
ROLAND PD-105BK 10" V-DRUM PAD
ROLAND KD-120BK 12" V-DRUM KICK
ROLAND CY-15R
2x ROLAND CY12RC
ROLAND VH-12 HI-HAT CONTROLLER
ROLAND MDS-20BK DRUM RACK STAND

Anyone know what cables I would need to buy to attach this kit to the MD module?

Just a quick note about Roland 3-zone cymbals. By design they occupy 4 inputs (2 stereo jacks) each, while Yamaha 3-zone cymbals occupy 2 inputs (1 stereo jack) each.

I find Yamaha 3zone cymbals better than roland ones, and they cost half the price. I also find their rubber a bit less noisy than roland. Go for Yamahas PCY 155s (I think that is the new name for the new 15'' models). that´s my piece of advise

About VH-12 hihat, I don´t think megadrum can handle it, only the TD-20 module can do it. Go for a VH-11 instead as it is a common design, and can be connected with no problems to megadrum. VH-12 hihat has a different kind of technology. Dmitri, correct me if I am wrong with this

I have no idea what kind of design VH-12 uses but if somebody can get all the voltage readings on it while connected to a Roland module and if it turns out to be very different from all other types of HH pedals, I'm pretty sure I can add support for it.

Great advice - you guys are saving me a lot of money! :)

I'll replace the CY-15R and the two CY12RCs with three PCY-155s

Comparing the VH11 and 12 there doesn't seem to be much difference I'd notice so there's another saving...

The V-Drum racks look really overpriced too - especially if you only have a four-piece kit. Are there any greater dangers of crosstalk if you mount a PD-125 or similar via a clamp to a cymbal stand with a PCY-155 or similar attached compared to a rack?

For this alone you can consider you'd get MegaDrum virtually for free ;)
