Now we have positional sensing...can we improve the hi-hat?

Postby macca2004 » Fri May 14, 2010 9:49 am

Megadrums features are just expanding so much that it wont be long before it is considered the best drum triggers out there!

The hihat is still a little behind TD20/VH11

We still have problems with the short and long chick times...maybe thats for another time to fix...mines disabled at present, but what I think could be an improvement is more hi-hat divisions.

Presently when setting open and closed levels we end up with 3 pedal zones. Closed, Half Open and Open. Much software such as Toontracks Superior drummer responds to midi message numbers in upto 5 zones (i.e closed, open 1, open 2 etc).

Would it be possible to add further divisions between open/closed level to give 5 open positions and associated midi numbers? To simplyfy we could just allocate a single midi note to each new division as there isnt much of a difference in samples on bow and edge when the cymbal is opening.

i.e

Closedlvl = 112 Midi Note 22/42/ i.e any strike when the pedal is between 112-127 will transmit midi note 22
Open1lvl = 100 Midi Note 17 i.e any strike when the pedal is between 100-111 will transmit midi note 17
Open2lvl = 75 Midi Note 18
Open3lvl = 50 Midi Note 19
Open4lvl = 25 Midi Note 60
Openlvl = 10 Midi Note 42/25

These midi numbers are just guesses...I could give you the SD2 actual midi numbers is you require.

What do you think....Is this possible?

Isn't it the same as a request raised in viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1192 ?
