Can't upgrade to new firmware.

Seems i found a problem with my MD nothig to bad, just that i want to upgrade to newer version of firmware but when i press left key to enter bootloaders menu, nothing happens just starts as always, keys works fine since i can navigate de entire menu of my MD and configurate at will..., so... im gonna have to use the ISP cable to program the atmega again?
Just to be clear, my MD works great just cant upgrade the firmware the easy way, any clue?

You most likely don't have a bootloader programmed into Atmega.

Well, gonna have to connect my old computer (my new dosnt have an lpt port) and do it the old schoold stile.
thans dmitri, i was almost sure that that was the problem ( but i didnt programed since is from a synthex kit ) but i wasn't sure.

Finally i upgrade the firmware via isp, but still can't programm the booteloader, each time i try to program it it just says it did but the led keep flashing, any idea?
well not so bad since my MD work great.
dmitri, could it be that SPIEN was checked? from de the tutorial in the documents area the pics there show its not checked...
