Questions regarding MegaDrum hihat notes and feature request

Postby rockdude » Sun Jul 11, 2010 8:20 am

Earlier MegaDrum featured Closed, Half Open and Open. The Closed note and Half open note were set in the hihat pedal settings. The open note were set in the Hihat settings.
Closed Level determine where on the CC-scale the Half Open note triggers and Open level determines where on the CC-scale the Open note triggers.

For example if Open Level=8 and Closed Level=100: Pedal opens from closed position and starts sending Midi CC 127, 126, 125..and so forth. When the pedal has opened to such and angle that Midi CC=100 the Half Open note triggers. The pedal continues to open even more and when it's almost totally open and the midi CC reach 8 it triggers the Open note.
Am I correct?

Now MegaDrum features:
Open - notes are set on the HiHat cymbal input.
SemiOpen - notes are set in BowSO/EdgeSO/BellSO.
HalfOpen - notes are set in BowHO/EdgeHO/BellHO.
SemiClosed - notes are set in BowSCL/EdgeSCL/BellSCL.
Closed - notes are set in BowCL/EdgeCL/BellCL

It would be very efficient to be able to set where all these triggers on the CC-scale. So settings called Closed level, SemiClosed Level, Half Open Level, Semi Open Level and Open Level.
This would make it possible to tweak each articulation to fit a specific hihat, playingstyle or liking. Very flexible so to speak! 8-)

I'll add these settings in a new version.

Great, thanks! This will be a very useful addition!

Just a sidenote; Superior Drummer has Closed, Tight closed, Open 1, 2, 3 ,4 ,5
Pretty many levels of openness to say the least. I think it would be a good way to name the levels of openness in MegaDrum to numbers as well. For example if we have Open 1-6 in MegaDrum (or maybe even 1-8) we would have a few extra articulations to activate if needed. And the names Open Level 1, Open level 2 and so on, to set where to trigger them on the cc-scale.

Another suggestion is to allow users to choose between Basic and Advanced settings in MegaDrum. When choosing basic, only basic function will show among the settings. When choosing Advanced the user will have all advanced settings available for tweaking such as positional sensing, all hihat note settings and so forth. In the Basic mode there might only be an option for Closed, Half Open and Open, but in Advanced mode all notes will be presented. This way the interface will be less clustered for those that only use MegaDrum with a simple setup...and the geeks(me and other demanding users ;) ) will have the have all tools at hand in Advanced mode. Just a thought.

Btw, my DIY 3 zone yamaha replica hihat cymbal works very good with MegaDrum and Superior Drummer! Chick and Splash works good and I've managed to map variable Bell, Bow and Edge. Now I just need to finetune where I want the different articulations to trigger so it fits my playingstyle...and that's soon possible thanks to MegaDrums always evolving firmware releases 8-)
