I don't know if it can help some people, but I designed some switch for my yamaha style diy wood ride (but it would work on any type of cymbals IMO).
I'll try to post some picture later today since it speaks more than words..
I based my design on that:
http://portal.batacas.com/index.php?vie ... &Itemid=74I made a couple of change that make it easier than cutting soda cans. Here a list of matérial I used:
-double side tape
-Plastic sheet (the kind of sheet teachers use to write on with a projector)
-Aluminium foil (kitchen type)
-Paper clip
-Glue (locktite type)
I started by tracing my switch design on the cymbal and put double side tape on that zone. Then I placed the foil very carefully so I don't wrinkle it. After, I cut the excess foil of the "switch zone", leaving only a square of foil that I fold to make a square of about 2cm x 2cm, on which I placed the paper clip (make sure the paper clip is sanded to remove any paint, since it's used as a solder point). I put some glue on the paper clip and foil to make sure it's solid and wont tear.
After that, I cut 2 pieces of that plastic sheet with the same design as the one on the cymbal. I cut the first piece leaving only a 3mm borders (so the middle is cut off leaving space for both layer of foil to touch each other).
On the 2nd piece, i did the same thing as on the cymbal. Double side tape, place foil carefully, cutting the excess, foil.. placing a paper clip (make sure it dont touch the botom layer).
At that point you can glue or double side tape (i chose to glue, easier to work) the first piece on the cymbal. After that, I glued the 2nd piece on the 1st piece (make sure the foil is facing down).
Once fished, solder wires on the paper clips
Works pretty well for me.. but as I said, I will try to post some pictures..
