Pros and Cons of full DIY Megadrum

Postby chuckytuh » Sun Dec 30, 2012 1:56 pm

First of all I'm not here to contest dmitri's work, honestly I believe this project is incredible and what you've done to the edrum diyers is amazing! Thank you!

I've been reading and searching about minipcs based on arm microprocessors, some based on android and some based on Linux, accordingly MK808 and iMX233.

The later one seems like a cool start for a project like the one you have here and with the recent updates on megadrum with the ARM microprocessor a question arises on my head, what are the benefits of building your entire schematic based on an arm micro instead of using one of the pre-built "minipcs" that have a lot more processor power and opens the door for some cool stuff like video output and integrated usb?

Dmitri should comment this - but he is away for a couple of days.

There have been discussions about this on the following thread regarding the new ARM based MegaDRUM.

These boards will still need an addons for MegaDrum functionality so they don't have any advantage.

Thats correct but they do have GPIO and, well, linux running on it. Maybe some advanced version of megadrum with a touch LCD and audio playback, that would be neat :P

Thanks for the reply, I must admit that by the time I found the iMX233 I rushed here and posted this and didn't actually read/search the forum about similar threads. The questions I've asked were answered by dmitri on that thread so I believe this post can be closed.
