LCD Backlight Resistors?

Postby ohawker » Sat Jun 14, 2008 3:30 pm

Hey everyone,

Quick question, why are there resistors either side of the LED of the LCD? I shorted them out once by accident, and the LCD became considerably brighter. I checked the specs of the LCD, and the LED supply voltage is +5V, which is what it receives from the supply with no resistors, so why are the resistors there?

The reason I ask is that recently the right hand side of my LCD has mysteriously stopped working, although I can't see why the LED would affect this? I have ordered a new LCD and don't want the same to happen to the new one! ;)

Cheers

These are for short circuit protection in LCD. The can be replaced by wires but I'd suggest to leave at least one resistor of around 22-47 Ohm.
