A couple of noob questions.

Postby Sahjin » Thu Oct 20, 2016 11:11 pm

Hello, I've been reading some of the faq and documentation but I can't seem to find what I need. I'm really interested in building a kit. I'm pretty good with electronics and I've worked with pcb's plenty, but I'm pretty new to drums.

First question is, does this need to remain plugged in to my pc or is that just for the firmware setup? I would prefer to keep it separate from my pc if possible after setup.

Secondly,
I'm not sure what I need to buy alongside this module to get my sounds. It says synthesizer or drum machine, but what are some examples of what people use for this? I'm using an Alesis DM6 right now with no midi input. Like if I buy another drum module with midi for sounds, that can't really control more inputs than what its built for correct?

Thanks for any advice.

MegaDrum doesn't have to be connected to a PC all the time. A PC is only required for firmware upgrades. Configuration can be done with front panel buttons/LCD but it is easier to do from a PC.
I test standard MIDI functionality with a Boss DR-3 Drum Machine - https://www.boss.info/us/products/dr-3/. It doesn't have trigger inputs at all but it has a MIDI input so it functions as a MIDI drum sound module for MegaDrum and with this drum machine I can use as many inputs in MegaDrum as I want.

That sounds great. I appreciate the quick reply, that's exactly what I needed to know. I can't wait to get started.
