OKAY!!!! I figured it out! I didn't have the "yes" options on the MD figured out:
so, if it helps anyone else, Here's my over simplified directions for updating on a mac OS!!
1. Download the dated firmware and the mdfwupdater
2. Make sure the firmware that you need to load is in the same directory as the updater. On Mac, it's in the MacOS folder. MOVE THE FIRMWARE TO THE UPDATER FOLDER.
--> what I missed <---
3. Using Terminal, EDIT Dmitri's text to whatever applied to your personal computer:
so, for me, I downloaded and upzipped to my Downloads folder, so I had to type:
cd ~/Downloads/mdfwupdate/MacOS
THEN:
Change Dmitri's text to whatever updater you're updating:
his text says:
./mdfwupdate megadrum644_20111213.bin
I needed mine to say:
./mdfwupdate megadrum644_48_20160529.bin
4. Press enter.
After this, it'll bring up the MIDI options. Before this, you need to select the MIDI options on Megadrum manager.
5. Select the MIDI output. press enter.
6. Select the MIDI output DO NOT PRESS ENTER.
7. In my MD, i have two knobs, and two buttons, and the LCD doesn't work. So:
press up the up button once, then press the left knob once. (20hz)
press the down button once, then press the left knob once (load from PC)
8. IN LESS THAN ONE SECOND, press enter in Terminal, and it should work!
hope this helps. Dmitri sure helped me!
