Setup! am I doing this right ?

Postby stickprick » Wed Feb 06, 2013 12:09 pm

Hi !

I just received my Megadrum from Dmitri, and started the setup for the Snare Head (rim disabled, dualpad set to no)

at Gain 0 I´m getting a Highlevel of 512-552 and at Gain 5 the Highlevel is 840 so I don´t need a voltage divider !?

now I set Gain to 5, Autolvl to no, and highlevel to 840 and start configuring the Pad according to this Post
viewtopic.php?p=20543#p20543

what is meant by "until false notes start to appear" ?
In MidiLog a correct note appears as 2bars, one for midi on and one for midi off, is that right ?

Your snare doesn't seem to need a voltage divider.
False notes are when you hit once but you get more then one Note On MIDI message.

ok, with the settings according to the Link I get false double triggering even at DynLevel 15. Similar to Piezo´s from this Thread

Here´s a Screenshot of my MDM Settings

btw: how do I load the .syx files from Angr77´s Homepage into Megadrum ? MDM only accepts .mds files

If you use the load/save buttons in the pad panel...these files are syx format. Pretty neat when dealing with individual pads.

You get double triggering with DynLevel 15, DynTime 60 and Threshold 80? What kind of a pad is it? With such setting on my Drumtec 14" and Roland PD-125 I would have already lost fast triggering and double triggering being eliminated for long.

I set retrigger mask to 2, now i can get dynlvl to 9 with (almost) no false triggering.

It´s a 14" snare from Diamond Electronic Drums with Drumtec Design Meshhead.

@angr77

thanks I´ll try it.
And I´ll send you my Pad Settings too, when I got them right.

While looking at your MDM screenshot I noticed that your MegaDrum reported incorrect MCU type. I just published a new firmware version which fixes this bug.

Is this MCU type Bug only optical ? If so I can live with that, and update later ;)

After a bit tweaking I came to these Settings for the Snare Head

Would you say any of these values look strange ?

I compared it to some values from angr77´s database and noticed that my DynLvl is high and DynTime is low.
So I tried to decrease DynLvl while increasing DynTime but that didnt work out well.

Also Threshold is really low but increasing it doesn´t change much. And I didn´t get false triggering in the initial Setup Process, so I was able to set it to 1.

Threshold indeed seems very low but if it doesn't cause double triggering or crosstalk then it is perfectly ok.

I´m currently trying to configure my VH-11 with EZDrummer.
Therefore I put a 20K trimpot between tip and ring of the HHpedal input, as suggested.

Then I loaded the VH-11 pedal syx file from angr77´s page.
When I look at the MIDI Log the pink Hihat Bar is at 126 with trimpot at 0 Ohm. At around 3,30 Kiloohm it starts to decrease, so I set it to 3,30K because that´s the point of the biggest dynamics.
But shouldn´t the Bar go to 127 ? Otherwise I think I won´t be able to achieve a fully open Hihat ?

Furthermore I had a look at the Hihat pedal notes tab in MDM and noticed that in the .syx file from angr77`s page only 2 Notes are entered (Bow closed and Edge closed). But in EZDrummer´s Keymapping are some more Hihat notes specified (like Pedal chick, open 1/2/3, open HH, open max). Which ones do I have to use ?

PS: angr77, here´s my current Diamond Snare .syx file. But it´s only the Head for the moment.
