help with program change

Postby steviemixes » Sun Sep 14, 2014 5:36 pm

hey everyone. I'm working on putting together a triggered drum set for a client. we bought the mega drum and midi it to a roland SPD-S for the sounds. he wants to be able to use a separate trigger for program changes or even an on/off switch. seems easy enough, i read the page on program change on the megadrum site. I tried it using an edge and a rim trigger input, set it to function:program change and piezo. the SPD-S unit is set to receive and transmit program change info. So, if anyone whose been through this can shed some light on the issue for me i would greatly appreciate it. thank you.

1. What pad is this?
2. Did you configure it to act as normal pad, i.e. to send edge(bell) notes when you hit edge(bell)?
3. Post screenshot of settings on the input.
4. Post Screenshot of MIDI Log -> Raw MIDI when you press the edge and the bell switch.

hey i followed the instructions, i used and edge/rim input, set to program change, set to piezo, with a notes and p notes set to match the programs in the roland drum machine. the only thing i was confused about is what exactly is dual piezo mode. i only had and option for piezo and switch. i will try to post the pictures but since they're with the client i do not have access to them everyday. i appreciate your help hopefully we can figure this out.

switch type input can function at all only if the head/bow is set to Dual or 3way mode.

fist you get a few things ...you will need
2 gallons of gas
1 match
1 hammer

1) pour gas over the drums
2) throw the match onto the freshly poured gas then
3) smack yourself in the head with the hammer !

(seriously last option on your head options for that particular drum)

It is quite easy.

The head/bow channel trigger type controls this. Set it "dual or 3 way Yamaha". Then set the RIM/Edge channel to piezo or switch. This means that the two channels are connected and MD's logic will handle it as dual input.

Note: Setting the head/bow to single piezo and before that stage, have been setting the RIM/Edge to "single piezo"...will mean that the two input channels are separated. Nice if you have two piezo based cymbals but only want to use one dual channel as input for them both.

I am just finishing a crazy idea with my MD..to control my coverbands lightmixer...which can handle program change over midi. I have arranged it so it is using the Edge/RIM as switch from a cymbal to change between 7 different light scenes. The idea I have got is to trigger the cymbal sound at the same time as the switch are triggered. Note: I have not been able to test this in reality - yet.

My config looks like this for a switch based program change.
