I followed the "Setting up a Yamaha style 3 zone cymbal" instructions step by step, then i followed ignotus's instructions, and came up with this:

for the edge, the switch works between 21 and 32, passed 32 MD sends a constant signal even if the switch isn't pressed
for the bell, the switch works within the entire 0-127 range

still getting the same note for both switches! (as you can see on the midi log)

am i cursed or something?

What 'constant signal' is it sending?

How do you say that the bell switch works if the MIDI Log shows notes for the edge switch?

sorry Dmitri, not sure if "constant signal" was the right term, in fact once past the 32 threshold the MD sends a note on but no note off (what i wrongly interpreted as a "constant signal")

i can only assume that the bell switch works because the switches don't work at the same threshold, the edge switch works between 21 and 32 threshold, and the bell switch works within the entire 0-127 range. Then i agree with you, the midi log shows only notes for the edge switch but it's confusing because i'm pressing alternatively edge and bell switch

let me know if something comes to your mind, but as i said, i can work around this...

Thanks for your help guys!

I can only suspect that you wired switches incorrectly.

it looks so simple, but you're right, maybe i did... If you want to have a look (black is the piezo, yellow the ground, blue the rim)

i may also have interpreted the wrong way some stuff in the "Setting up a Yamaha style 3 zone cymbal" configuration (i'm not familiar at all with 3 way cymbals)

_ when you say "hit a few times edge (or bell) zones", could you describe a bit of the process going on in the MD?
_ What would the "hit a few times edge (or bell) zones" process be without a real cymbal, with only a piezo and 2 switches? What would you "hit"?
_ can you confirm that "alt notes choking" has to be set to yes (to receive notes and not aftertouch messages)?

Thanks Dmitri

The schematic is correct.

When you hit edge or bell switch zones, MegaDrum tryes to detect at which levels those switches "make". You have to hit zones so that they "make" at the same time as piezo from the bow produces a signal from a hit at on edge/bell zones.

It is up to you to decide what you're going to use for choking, aftertouch or AltNote. If you use AltNote for choking then you have to set "AltNote Choking" to Yes.

So, in my case, which is not with a real cymbal but with separated pieces: a piezo and two switches lying on a table, when the "Set All EdgeSw" is on "working" state, am i supposed to hit the piezo while still squeezing the edge switch? And hit a little softer for the "Set All BellSw" while squeezing the bell switch?

The algorithm is meant for a cymbal/pad where piezo and switches are mechanically linked so that when one of the zones with a switch is hit the piezo also triggers.

I think your answer pretty much explains why what i was trying to do couldn't work, it's simply not meant to be used this way, if the bell switch and the piezo are meant to be used simultaneously, i can't treat the bell switch like a regular switch, this is only possible with the choke switch...

Thanks Guys for taking the time to help me with this, even if it didn't turn out the way i expected!

I know this post is a little old but i have the same ploblem. I build a DIY 3 Zones Cymbal and can´t make it work. For the edge, the switch works between 23 and 32 but for the bell the switch works with any value. Besides that I think that MD doesn´t distinguish between edge switch and bell switch. I attach an screenshot where I squeeze alternately edge and bell switch and I get the same note.

I followed this diagram: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1279

When I try Dmitri suggestions about Yamaha 3 zones configuration I get bell note with both switchs...

Any suggestion?
