It's advised to use latest versions of firmware and MDM. You update MDM by installing the new version.

Ok because this is my first update. Can I leave the old version installed and it will update or should I understand install MDM first?

You don't need to uninstall. Just install a new version.

It's right there in MDM when you choose from the menu Main->Firmware Upgrade.

I just tested it with my TP120SD and it works for all three zones fine:

You can see in the screenshot I did: two hits on each zone then press one of the switches and then the same cycle again.
Maybe I still misunderstand you and you have a problem with your sound synth rather then with MegaDrum configuration?

So I was going to try this...and decided to do the firmware update. It did not work, now MD is not working. How do I tell what Crystal I have? Which is the correct firmware? viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1075 The first download correct?

Your MegaDrum is ARM (STM32F205RCT6) based judging by your photos so you must use STM32d firmware and you don't need to choose Crystal frequency. If firmware update failed for any reason use procedure from viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1252 to restore/reload firmware.
