bat85 alternative

Postby ubaid88 » Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:14 am

Well in previous thread i read that bat42/43 and 1n5818/9 can be used as alternative bat85 diodes. But when i compared datasheet of 3 of them i found that Bat42/43 looked equivalent to bat 85( Iam not expert in this. I know little about electronic enough to build megadrum ;)). So can u confirm 1n5818/9 can be used instead bat85. Both 1n5818/9 and bat42/43 are avaiable to me. But bat42 3 time more expensive.

No need for a new thread for the same topic. I merged them. See previous posts in this topic.

Please can u list down all the possible alternatives(which you know that it can work) of bat85 diode and make it sticky or part of FAQS. So you need to bothered in future for this.
Thank you.

And one more thing. In your schematic of digital board, there is a capacitor of 1uF. I am only able to find polarised one for that value. So can I use a polarized one there.

I tested only bat85. If you find that other diodes work fine, you're welcome to to suggest an entry for the MegaDrum FAQ - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=597.

You can use a polarized capacitor.

VRRM 30V
VF max 0.8V
Package DO34
Configuration Single
IFSM 5A
Type Schottky Single

bat42
IF 0.2
VRRM 30
VF max 0.45V
Package DO35
IFSM 4A
Type Single
trr max ns 5.0

bat43
IF 0.2
VRRM 30
VF max 0.45V
Package DO35
IFSM 4A
Type Single
trr max ns 5.0

1N8187
IF 1A
VRRM 20V
VF max 0.45V
Package DO204AC

Can you help me out, to select alternative of bat85. Bat42/43 or 1n5817/8/9.

As I mentioned in one of the previous posts, you can try 1n5817/8/9. Most likely they will work just fine if their VRRM is not less than 30V and the switch time is quick enough to protect ICs from over/negative voltage. It's just I didn't use them myself.

Edit: It has now become known that none of 1N5817/1N5818/1N5819 will work properly with MegaDrum. Avoid!

Thanks.
Please just one last thing. Does forward current matters ?. b'cose bats85/42/43 have max 0.2 or 0.3 A and 1n5818/9 have 1.0A. So don't you using 1n5818 can damage the 4051 ic ?

The more the better.

Sorry?

I've now heard from several people having problems with 1N5819. Obviously it's not up to the task. DON'T use it!
