The link is through MIDI OUT (first board) and MIDI IN (second board).

brice wrote:how would I power the second board?

Just link the + and - of USB (pin1 and pin4) of the first board.

You need a Potentiometer in the pedal.

sounds good, so the last issue seems to be "when chained this way you won't be able to control the second MegaDrum with SysEx."

does the potentiometer need to be in the sustain pedal?

Controlling all MegaDrums in the chain will be implemented. I just need to think through how to do it the best way.

The potentiometer (or an optical voltage regulator) has to be in the HiHat pedal. MegaDrum determines how deep the pedal is pressed by measuring voltage on the HiHat pedal input.

A switch can be used as a HiHat pedal using a schematic similar to this:

thank you dmitri for taking the time to make this image.

dunno if this is clear enough, what I'd like to do is say use a standard sustain pedal (ie Yamaha FC5) and use it as a regular sustain (piano) pedal

As far as I know a sustain pedal is essentially a switch. In that case you can use it as a two positions HiHat controller using the schematic I showed.
