If the graphs are to scale, than I see that small signals are weakened just as much as strong signals. Don't see why it is better than just a voltage divider. Am I missing something?

With the correct choice of components on the jack plug, the circuit in Fig 1 achieves the same result as the fixed value voltage divider you recommend – certainly no better but...

You're locked in a cell with the word SHOUT scribbled on the wall.
Time passes.
> look

In the corner is an oscilloscope glowing.
There is a single core shielded signal cable poking under the door.
There is a capacitor here.
> use scope

With what?
> use scope with cable

Ok.
> look

The oscilloscope shows a wave form peaking at 2.5 volts.
There is a piece of paper here.
> look at paper

The paper is a fault report, it reads:-
Dear Mr Forgettable,
This oscilloscope will only take two readings before breaking down.
Should you again require our services please telephone and we will
arrange to have it fixed again at our own expense.
> shout

You SHOUT “2.5 volts”.
Nothing happens.
> look at capacitor

It is a perfectly ordinary cheap capacitor.

Sorry, but to be honest I find it hard to understand your "pure stream of thoughts" style, not accustomed to such things. I've lost the point now.

I find poetry pre-dates this form of literature, dmitri I'm surprised at you :ugeek:

Just wanted to return to this thread for some updates.

I replaced most of my various value voltage dividers (always used two of the same resistor, but was using different values across different pairs) with 4.7K ohm resistors across the board except for the kick and I'm very happy. I'm finding now as well that my ride and hi hats can also use a bit of attenuation. Not sure why different values of resistors mattered but anyways. I'm very glad I found some resistors for voltage dividers that work well so that I don't have to go and install 32 pots!

Also, the samples being used made a huge difference with hot spots and playability. Some tom samples just sucked and I couldn't get anything great of out them. Now I'm using the big fat Vistalite kit from the BFD Deluxe expansion and it's fantastic, I am using a different snare though as I don't quite get the perfect feel out of the snare with the Vistalite kit. High levels are below 800 on all kit pieces now but not so low that it sucks the dynamic range out of my kit. I still have to use "all gains low" however.

Had a great jam last night that started off with some buggered settings here an there but by the end of the 2.5 hours, I worked nearly almost everything out. Ah, success!

Next step? Maybe a live jam video for demonstration purposes? :D

MegaDrum just keeps getting better and better!

Out of curiousity, after applying some resistors why did you still have to use "all gains low"? Didn't kill the voltage enough?

My voltage dividers only brought down the pads and the corresponding highlevels so much, they are anywhere from 400 to just about 800 now. I honestly haven't tried going back to using the gains on the channels so my statement about having to use allgainslow may be incorrect... but I'm getting the kind of response I like right now so I haven't worried about it yet. But as with any DIY project, I may just end up tinkering more and more even though I've found a good spot.

According to a post Dmitri made he specifically references "...If it's above 850 it is too hot for MegaDrum and your setup will underperform...." So I would think anything under 850 would be ideal. Somewhere else (don't have it here) I recall him saying anything under 300ish for your high level would also provide negative performance. I'd think you'd want it as close to, but not above, 850.
