Out of curiosity, why exactly?

i thought you ment that i had 2 problems:

faulty Atmega
faulty LCD

but you're guessing it's only the LCD ?
but it keeps saying
"Fw Updater 16MHZ
Down-OK UP-clock"

i can't program the bootloader/Atmega myself - i'm not a Windows guy, and i don't know how to.
hence i need a new programmed Atmega, correct?

Where did I say you have a faulty Atmega?

faulty LCD

Only if you've thoroughly read viewtopic.php?f=3&t=492 and sure that the back light on your LCD is faulty

but you're guessing it's only the LCD ?

Did you actually read the link about the bootloader I gave you?

it's not a faulty Atmega - my bad - it's the bootloader that's missing (guess i accidently erased it)

Only if you've thoroughly read viewtopic.php?f=3&t=492 and sure that the back light on your LCD is faulty

i'm now sure it's faulty, no.
since the backlit feature only works on the atmega WITH the firmware and bootloader, it's hopefully/probably still in good condition.

yes.. to some extent ;)

the thing is - i don't have an ISCP cable - nor do i have a computer that's capable of updating/uploding firmware or bootloaders.
i'm on a macbook - no "special" inputs here. only USB and firewire.

that's why i'm hoping Synthex will sell me another Atmega.

The backlight works with or without firmware.
Please check the voltage between pin 15 and 16.

if it's really necessary, I can do that.

Don't be offended, but you're making a mess out of incorrect statements probably because you're too eager to have it working. E.g., the bootloader is NOT missing it is there and you can see it on the LCD!
Again, you're mistaking back light for contrast.
Reading topics I gave you links to "to some extent" is not enough. Really, read them leisurely, don't rush:) You don't need a special programmer, nor any ICSP or ISP cables. All you need is a USB cable. This is what bootloader for - to update firmware without these things.
Now, MCT on Mac may not be polished yet but I'm sure you can borrow a Windows laptop from a friend just to load MegaDrum firmware into Atmega.

you couldn't be more correct sir ;)
i'm rushing things - hoping to get this done. eventhough i've taken great care of soldering everything really well.

tomorrow i'll borrow a friends PC and try to update the firmware (i am currently reading through the links you gave me - to great extent :D ).
and i'll read the pins you asked me for.

Either find a way to use a Windows/Linux PC (steal/buy/make dual boot), or nag elrules with MCT problem on Mac (taking in account that he doesn't have a Mac and just moved to another country and probably doesn't have much time right now). Go figure what can happen sooner.
Or just order another Atmega from Synthex, but you may eventually want to update firmware anyway or may simply again accidentally erase MegaDrum firmware.

so to get things perfectly straight,- all i need to fix my problems (hopefully ;) ) is;

1) a PC
2) MCT for PC
3) a USB cable
4) the Megadrum i've made

?

Correct, except for the back light problem (don't mistake it for contrast).
