I'm pretty sure you have instability/noise issue and the firmware is not properly loaded. The bootloader doesn't do any checking/validating of the incoming sysex firmware so if any bytes were corrupted it won't complain.

Thanks Dmitri,

Sorry if I'm being thick, but could you recommend any measures to combat this 'instability/ noise issue' and would it be worthwhile trying to download another copy of the firmware in case the file I used is corrupt?

Cheers

1. Double/triple check for bad soldering/loose connections.
2. Make sure that decoupling capacitors are all good and that polarized capacitors are not reversed.
3. Use another and maybe shorter USB cable.
4. Try another USB port
5. Try another PC.

If the downloaded .zip file is corrupted any good zip program should give a warning when trying to unzip it.

Hold that result!! :D
Happy man here.

Using MCT instead of midi-ox to load megadrum644_20_32_20090517.syx, all appears to be well. Your thoughts please?

And again, thank you very much for your patience and invaluable help. You really are the business Dmitri.

Now that things seem to be progressing, I'll post details of my project soon.

I'm away to make some noise!

Cheers
