That is a really nice addition to the project. I'm still on my 16x2 screen and I dont have problems but this will help to the new users a lot.
About previous general discussion:
Well guys someone's got idea and with some very hard work make it possible. It's ok, we appreciate and wish long life to the maker! We, mortals from margins are infatuated with such projects because we are all a bit DIYers. I do not regret that I came into this story, I learned and created something with satisfying results. I was a little tired of this project and jumped to some others but still played my drums regularly.
Why this project has not raised higher dust? It's simply too hard for most of potential users to finish the entire job and sit and play. People are used to buy and play. Main reason why people get into this story is playing drums quietly at low cost, hence the frustration when things do not work out as we intended. Why Roland's hi end modules have big price!? Because group of engineers make it possible to plug and after 15min go and groove (ok groove and electronic...:). It's not magic it's today's world wide standard ok, and it costs.
I have made my drumset, and it works quite good but it will never feel and sound like acoustic. You have to adapt your technics and feel to be successful on this kind of diy e drums. It's not easy and some of 'dreams' will be broken but you can play and practise no doubt.
Maker still work on this project bringing to us only good things. Who knows what will the future bring.
Right now I work on different setup. Acoustic drum set with remo silentstroke mesh heads and some Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals for authentic feel.
This guy has done a great job and it is quiet enough for practising.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0hKALGOKhQ)
However things are never black and white, there's layers and layers. Different people, different intentions... still this place is like a small oasis in the www ocean and people are kind and really want to help. Cheers to all!
