It works! still questions.

Postby Venimal » Thu Apr 01, 2010 12:51 pm

So I ended up going with trying the drop-in-cakepan method for my DIY snare. Honestly, it works really well, however I did have the problem with a "hot pad". So i purchessed a 4.7k resister, and a 10k resister. I tried the 10k first, because I read that was the recommended. I was suprised at how well it worked, however it still didn't seem right. No matter how much I tampered with my settings, it still just didn't seem to respond as well as I thought it should. I don't have the settings in front of me, however I can post them later if you want. If I play slowly and carefully each note seems to be how I hit it, however the faster I go the more inconsistant it becomes. I just wanted to ask if the reason I'm having sensitivity issues at higher speeds is due to the fact that I have Pearl Mesh Heads for my drum? I read that they are crap, and just wanted to know if that might be my problem.

If that is not the case, i will post pictures of my snare, and post my current settings, and go into all the internals of my D-I-C snare.

For my next attempted at making a tom/snare, I will probably be doing the Hellfire X4L Cakepan Mylar Reflection Plate design, and see how tha flys. For some reason, I think the foam cone might also have something to do with my sensitivity problems (FYI, I got the cones and Peizo's from Quartz).

Edit...

That was NOT implying that the cones were of bad quality! Infact, I think they are great quality! I just think a reflection plate design seems to be better for the Megadrum (since there is no PS)

If you won't, any suggestion will be a wild guess.

Fair enough. I'm at work currently, I'll post when I get home tonight.

Thank you again Dimitri! It's not perfect yet, but I still love my home built Megadrum! It's so cool!

No more questions needed at this time... So I feel kind of dumb. I never hit the button that says "Send to megadrum". All I ever hit was "save all settings". With the 4.7k resister, it was still way too hot. So, I actually went out and got a 100k trim pot, and soddered it in, and set it at first to 10k. It was significantly better, but still a bit off. So I adjusted it a little more, and landed at 24k.

Dimitri, this is what making children feels like. My snare triggers just as good as any roland I've played. The rim hits flawlessly, and rolls and flams hit right on. I have a fully working Megadrum Snare!

DAMN IT! now I need to make toms and a base drum, and crap... cymbals... SO MUCH TO DO! Why am I even posting on this forum right now. I'm busy! I'll keep you all posted! Pictures and video to come later!
