how can i add choke to my cymbals?

Postby vodoochild_ar80 » Fri May 21, 2010 3:21 am

I, how are you people, long time without posting..., so basically i want to upgrade a little my cymbals just adding a choke function (3 ways just in the near future, but for the ride only), search in the forum but cant find any wiring diagram or schematic, i try one of an alesis wiring, but didnt work. may be my firmware its to old (20090517), can anyone help me here?.
thank you all in advance

PD: by the way, the alesis wiring just was a ground to ring switch, and i was using SD2, maybe it dont have the funtion to choke.

I am currently working with Rasoo (Rob) from vdrums.com on a capacitive touch version of a choke. You can read about it here. The alesis version will be about 1"x2" (26mmx52mm) and stand about 3/16" (5mm) high.

Yeah, those are both Rob's videos. I will have to ask him about posting a schematic. I think we're actually going to try to make some money with them. 8-) We'll see how that goes. Here are some pics of the boards I am working on.

For non powered output (Alesis Style). The battery on these should last for a couple of years. It has very low current draw.

For self powered (Roland Style, probably Megadrum)

I ordered parts for the prototypes a couple of days ago. I will let you know how they come out. If they work we will be ready to rock-and-roll. 8-) The one thing I have to say though is that these are not going to work as an edge trigger. these are strictly a choke that is activated by human touch. To get edge sounds you will still have to have some sort of switch that is activated by your sticks. Just a little FYI.
