Downsizing?

Ok, sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I know absolutely nothing about electronics. I'm looking to make a really small scale electronic kit that I can just clamp onto my desk in college. So that I can at least have a kit of some sort to play. I'm looking for the lowest cost option, and it looks like diy might be the answer, but I'd still like to cut it down a bit. I really only need 9 or 10 inputs plus a hi hat switch input. I just need a plain and simple midi signal to go to play through garage band, no fancy stuff. Would it be fairly easy to do this? Or would I have to completely redesign the hardware and firmware? Thanks a lot for helping out a clueless drummer.

You can remove as many MUXers (and associated parts) as you don't need.
You can get rid of either MIDI or USB parts (not both).

Thanks, but I think I might just go for a buying a controller. It looks like it would be about the same price, and I am pretty much garaunteed to screw this thing up. Thanks for the help though!

Well not exactly MegaDrum.. but I think it fits your need.

Here a a tutorial to use guitar hero world tour (GHWT) drums on PC... there is software to convert the game controller data to MIDI for use in whatever sampler you like. Note you need the ps3 / ps2 wireless dongle not the xbox one)

http://pctutorialsonline.net/index.php/ ... on-pc.html

I have done this. its velocity sensitive etc, but pads are acoustically noisy and the kick pedal is rubbish. There is only two cymbals + 3 pads + kick (I would like to have extra cymbal so I could do HH, crash and ride but no) also there is no foot controller for High hat. A cheap way to add this would be hack a usb joystick and diy a pedal.. there are a few HID to MIDI softwares around (usb game controllers use the HID usb profile)

Does not compare to MegaDrum + proper mesh heads. but its compact, fun, cheap (what other drum kit can you folddown and carry under one arm :-)

I got one from my neighbours rubbish pile. just needed a new piezo on the snare pad.

ok but this software is windows.. maybe there is osX equiv ???
