Potentiometers in trigger cables

I have been reading up on megadrum lately and I am excited to get started; however, I have a few questions regarding potentiometers.

I was planning on using megadrum with Hart Dynamics pads; however, I understand that they may be too hot for megadrum. The solution that seems to work is a potentiometer on the pad or the megadrum module itself, but I do not want to hack up new pads or a new megadrum module -- so I was wondering if I could solder the potentiometer into the trigger cable and if so what potentiometer I should use.

Dmitri has recommended this particular potentiometer in the past, but I was wondering if anybody here could possibly recommend any potentiometers better suited for cables (like the volume controls on some headphones).

The thing is once you cooled a hot pad just enough you won't need to touch the potentiometer again. In fact, you can replace the potentiometers with constant resistors after that.
