I was wondering what the performance difference between 20mhz vs. 24mhz xtal for atmega644 is? While I had a bunch of stuff torn apart I decided to chuck a 24mhz xtal in place of my 20mhz. I was originally running firmware 2011033 @ 20mhz. Now I am running firmware 20110411 @ 24mhz and megadrum seems to be much more responsive when I play. My question is this. Is the 24mhz xtal responsible, or is it the new firmware, or is it both? I'm just curious because I'll keep this in mind for future builds. I mean if a faster clock gives that much of a performance kick, that's a no-brainer when it comes to xtal choice. A much more responsive megadrum is something that I would hardly complain about  :D

From my tests 24MHz clock doesn't improve triggering performance noticeably although it does improve menu navigation if Latency is set below 20.
