Directly connecting a megadrum to a desktop-pc

Postby drummertobi » Tue May 03, 2011 8:21 pm

Hi together,

First of all I'm ne in the forum and I'm waiting for my first megadrum ;-)

Just one question regarding the megadrum (I ordered yesterday) and the connecting to a computer. I’d like to bring the megadrum and all the computer components in one box. So I think about a direct way to connect the hardware. I’m not sure if I’m the first user doing this or if there are some more megadrum users trying this? Do you think there is a way to connect the two pieces via a soldered USB to USB cable (to configure the module and I think I need the USB-port for electric power supply).

I also think about a direct MIDI to USB cable to bring the data to the pc and control BFD for example? Maybe you know how to built this http://www.musicstore.de/de_DE/EUR/-/ar ... aign=GBase, because I do not need 3 meters ;-)

Best Regards
Tobi

You don't need a midi to usb cable with the megadrum. Once it's programmed all you will need is a usb cable. If you want to contain it all in one box then maybe a usb card with an internal usb port on it.....

I don't see why you cannot do it, just follow the USB pinout on the MegaDrum board and on the USB header on the PC motherboard.

I don't get it. You connect MegaDrum over USB. Why do you need this MIDI-to-USB cable?

my understanding: I have the USB to load the settings from my pc to the megadrum. And I need the MIDI ports to send the trigger-signal from the megadrum to my pc to contorl BFD or SD 2.0 - can I do everything with just the USB - port?

As I read your answer I do not need the MIDI-ports - correct?

You can use MegaDrum over USB alone, hence you don't have to use MIDI ports if you use it with a PC.
