Need advice on firmware update from Dimitri

Postby magpies » Sun Jun 19, 2011 2:34 pm

I purchased a 32 input Megadrum which you built for me in January 2011. The firmware is 20101223 which I plan to update to the latest version 20110602.

Problem is I dont know which Atmega chip is fitted because it says on the site the 32 input can be either

The Atmega1284 based 32 inputs module shown here is 155GBP (British Pounds) plus shipping. Shipping to the UK - £10, to EU - £15, to the US and almost to any other country - £20.
The Atmega644 based 32 inputs module is 150GBP plus shipping.

I guess the crystal clock frequency is 20MHz.

My guess was to use the 644_56_.................... version but when I tried I got the message that the Megadrum was not responding.

I have MegaDrumManager running on a Vista laptop and it seems to work great. But is it Ok to use that to update the firmware or should I Use the mdfwupdate utility.

Thanks as always for your help. Alan

Your chip is Atmega644 at 20MHz. Atmega1284 was introduced only at the end of April 2011.

You can use either.

Thanks Dimitri, I used MDM and got the new firmware uploaded no problem.

Incidentally for info when I use MDM to adjust settings on Megadrum I have to select megadrum usb for midi in and tick "use same in/out" in "options" "midi ports". But to upload the firmware I had to untick that and select megadrum usb for midi out.

If I don't do that neither function works properly.

Its no problem and MDM works great, its just feedback from the field.
