I've seen all the other posts about adding rotary encoders to megadrum, and just need some final clarification on some things. I'm going for 2 pushbutton encoders and 2 buttons

Based on the attached picture do I have the pins labeled correctly (A-E)? I have seen a few data sheets but some are different from others. (These are encoders with pushbutton function as well)

Since I am using encoders on Synthex 2.5 pcb it looks like I have to wire up encoders this way. Pin 5 and 4 as well as Pin 25 and 24 on the Atmega viewtopic.php?p=3959#p3959

What I am confused about is why there are numbers (1-4) on the schematic? http://www.megadrum.info/sites/default/ ... _kicad.png

From what I understand A, B, C pins are for the encoder function and D and E are for the pushbutton function... is that right?

Pin letters where? In the schematic? Yes, of course.

Forgive me if I was confusing I meant the actual pins (legs) on the encoder itself which I labeled in the picture of the encoder above A,B,C,D,E. Also Atmega pins 4,5,24,and 25 are labeled correctly in the picture I posted right? Thanks

They seem to be correct. The encoders' datasheet will tell you for sure.

If these are the same pins as in Latest MegaDrum schematics than they are correct.

The pin layout was correct on the encoders (i'm using these by the way http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a-st ... DER/1.html) when I checked the datasheet and it appears those pin numbers on synthex 2.5 board (5,4, and 25,24) link up directly to what your latest schematic has for the encoders. Thanks again for all your help.

Why must pin D be connected to ground? viewtopic.php?p=10268#p10268 (I understand connection with keyboard wire/pin 4 just not why in addition it must be grounded). I also understand from the original schematic viewtopic.php?p=3959#p3959 that pin C on both encoders is connected to ground , that is clear.

I plan on connecting these ground connections ( from pins C and possibly D) to pin 5 on the keyboard headers. Is this ok or will this somehow throw off something?

Because otherwise buttons won't work.

Yes, ok if the pin 5 of the header is the ground.
