New Memember Build

Hi to all a new member hoping to make his drumset neighbour safe

I have etched the single layer 56 input board and ordered the parts from Farnell today

( I wanted to make a pcb single layer it appeared easier than dual)

Using a PC do I need an LCD screen, keyboard and Midi. What other components can I lose on this particular board? I’m not schematic literate

Buttons are required for firmware upgrades. Many people reckon that LCD is very useful if something goes wrong with a board you solder.

Can I replace the Through the hole 4851's with the SMT version put on an adapter. Do they all have to be the same i.e through the hole or the converted SMT version or can I mix and match. I already have 4 TTH and 5 SMT.

Also Dmitri . The board I made I used the iron on transfer method, either I'm crap at this or the connections are just a little too close or both. (very new to PCB manufacture, The shorts are quite common. I have now tried three times. Is there a Electronic reason the components are so close together. Can they be placed a little further apart and the links made thicker, or is it just to get them on the smallest board possible. If so can I have a copy of the file so I can move the parts further apart and make thicker connections.

Thanks Dmitri and everyone for a super project

Packaging has nothing to do with functionality. You can use any 4851 compatible MUXers.

No electronic reason. You can design your own PCB which meets your PCB making ability.

I have posted a picture of the new PCB in another post, If anyone wants a copy please let me know either in Gerber, BRD, PS or PDF. I will be etching as soon as my lazerstar transfers arrives and posting pictures as the build progresses. Has anyone had any experience of Lazerstar or Jetstar the inkjet version?

sbonasuk,
Do you have the complete list of components needed for this?
Regards,
Lawrence

Thank you so very much.
A component list would be nice also.
Or do we use the original components.
Oh an did ya do a keyboard layout too?
Thanks again!
