Will this work as a high hat pedal?

Quick question, if I solder a momentary switch to a audio socket, then use a cable to connect the socket to an input on the mega drum module will this work as a high hat pedal? My idea is use the switch to trigger open/close information for the hi hat. There will be a pedal to use to press the switch.
