I want my Megadrum

Okay... I think I'll go for the Megadrum32. (Mainly because of the higher number)

Here's my next question: in the parts list I didn't see anything about the anolgue jacks. (1/4" or RCA)
I also didn't see anything about a case.

I really don't have a full grasp of what the outcome will be if I present this list to the local electronic store genius.

Will I have a finished product or what?

Whithout jacks and a case? I doubt it'll be a finished product.

Thanks for the reply.

Okay box and jacks got it.

I'm online right now trying to order parts. (Decided to go with the Atmega8.)

I found the IC's with no issues.
The resistors and capacitors are another thing. There isn't enough description for someone like me to know how to select from a list of thousands. There are quite a few variables that make the selection pretty tuff for me.

For instance Crystal I found 16Mhz but it also asks for:

"Frequency Tolerance"
"Operating Temperture Range"
"Load Capacitance"
"Case" and
not to mention a ton of manufacturers.

Is they a more sure way of identifying the right part?

Megadrum with Atmega8 is obsolete.
No firmware version update.

Word of caution on Atmega8 - firmware for it has not been updated since December 2007.

Example for resistors that will do:

Example for ceramic capacitors (22p, 100n, 470n):

Example for tantalum capacitors (1uF):

The more I read about megadrum vs the other modules on the market, I am even more excited about building my own megadrum module.

I haven't quite figured out the "postional sensing" feature though. I guess Roland modules have it, but what does it really do? For instance, Toontrack Superior (my drum library of choice) has over 100 sampled hits per velocity level, per drum! So I have real control over the expression.

So how does positional sensing fit into the picture?

The only software sampler capable of positional sensing is FXpansion BFD 2.

Positional sensing is the ability to trigger different samples depending on where you hit the pad, near the center, or near the rim. BFD2 has positional sensing snares, with two different groups of samples depending if you hit the center of the mesh head or the mesh near the rim.

What you refer with 100 samples per pad, is the "sensitivity". megadrum can handle up to 128 velocity layers.

Toontrack Superior 2.0 has edge and center samples.

Yes, but I am not referring to edge hits, I am referring to half-edge hits ;)

Superior 2.0 has hits on the mesh of the snare and toms, and also hits on the rims (edges) of the snare and toms, I mean, the metal ring around the meshhead.

BFD2.0 has hits on the mesh of snare and toms, edge (rim) hits on the snare, and also, different sounds for where you play the mesh head (near the center or near the edge)

Positional sensing works thanks to a MIDI CC data in companion to the MIDI note of the hit done in the mesh head

S2.0 Avatar kit was sampled with the additional hits (half egde) as you said.
