Help with analog board

Postby bombicri » Sat Mar 01, 2014 8:56 pm

I finished digital board with Atmega 644 received from Dmitri, I assume that on it is not only the boot loader but also the FW (I do not know how to verify at this stage if FW is there or not.
I programmed PIC connected to USB.
Display is working well, contrast can be modified from MDM.
When I connect digital board (not connected to analog board) to my laptop via USB led is lighting for short time and then go off.

Question 1 --- is normal that after connecting to laptop and after on display appear "Megadrum info ..." to have all characters like underscores except first character from first raw which is full black?

Question 2 --- when I connect analog board to digital and then connect to laptop display is dead and after very short time laptop close the connection ... what could be? Or how to start the debugging? I installed on analog board HCF4051BE.

Thanks.

It has the latest firmware version and it shows it in the MegaDrum menu.

Yes, it's normal. You should read the MegaDrum documentation, and http://www.megadrum.info/content/genera ... adrum-menu in particular.

Check both boards, cables, connectors for shorts, breaks. If schottky diodes soldered in reverse, it will cause a short between a ground and +5. There could be many more reasons and the key to success is to meticulously check all components, tracks cables and etc.

Problem solved. One diode was wrong.
All boards are functioning well.
I am waiting now for PCB for buttons and encoders and for input jacks.
Dmitri you are right when you say "MegaDrum is a simple and easy to build". Just number my posts from when I bought Atmega and till now, when all two boards are ready to be used.
Yes, the whole product is not yet ready, there are still some steps but they are really simple.
Setting up and tuning is another subject. I shall see when I shall finish building Megadrum and after building all pads, cymbals and pedals.
I am planning to built hall effect Hi Hat pedal. I already got the component and magnet. I must do some experiments and after I shall design and build my own Hi Hat pedal with hall effect. I shall go to a music shop to measure the dimensions of a standard Hi Hat pedal and also the highest and lowest position of the pedal. All what I found on internet concerning building of Hi Hat pedal (pedal itself) is not "professional".
Finally will be really a DIY project.
Thank you a lot Dmitri for all documentation, plans, designs and explanations. But I thank you mainly for your availability.
I shall continue to post after every important step and to ask help when I shall be lost.
