Getting running - Megadrum and Addictive Drums 2

Postby CCinBR200 » Sat Aug 01, 2015 12:01 pm

Bought my Megadrum DIY kit a couple of months ago. I've done enough building to have one jack set up and want to test Megadrum before doing all of the other soldering. I can't get any sound / signals in Addictive Drums 2. Here's where I'm at:

1) I have a jack wired with wires 37 (kick) and 16.
2) LCD powers up and shows proper dashes.
3) I opened up Megadrum Manager. I set the MIDI in and out to "Megadrum USB MIDI". MDM shows "Syssex OK" in green. There is a little red box with "??".
4) Loaded default settings. Note = 36.
5) Inserted Addictive Drums 2 (18 tracks) into Reaper.
6) Set input and output on kick track to "MIDIIN2 (Megadrum USB MIDI)". Armed track.
7) In AD2, set map library to "Megadrum Basic".

Hit record. NOTHING happens. Track does move like usual when recording.

I'm stumped and have done a lot of searching. Any ideas?

Thanks!

when you hit the drum, does the red light on MD work?

koby drums - Triggera krigg/Bix - megadrum - Kontakt........... Samples from all and sundry.

And also, does MDM show anythig in the MIDI Log when you hit the pad? If yes, then something is misconfigured in AD2.

Please try to run AD2 in standalone mode (without reaper)

Set AD2 to receive on md port 2. ( klick on the Small icon in the left upper corner. )

What kind of default settings are you using and referring to?

If you want to, you could step forward and load the Basic settings directly on your MD. Found in rom kit parameter (this can be done without MDM)

It will map directly to the MD Basic Settings found in AD2.

Thanks, all. I only get a couple of hours each weekend to work on the project so I'll check in with you in a few days.

Making some progress.

Angr77, I used your Pack5_5 download. Now I get green "FW Version", green "OK" next to the Pck5_5 config name, and green "Sysex Ok". (Yay!)

I have connected my MIDI Out jack from the MD to the MIDI In on my Tascam US-1641 interface and USB from MD to my computer.

What I don't get is any MIDI signals showing up. In MIDI Visual, everything is -0- and ?. (I have not wired up the MIDI LED light)

Midi In = MIDIIN2; Midi Out = MIDIOUT2

Checked my wiring. I have continuity from the jack through the end of the cable that plugs into the MD. Also, tested pad and cable with TD-6 and they trigger just fine there.

Thanks for any help!

I'd wire the LED if I were you, it will help in finding the problem.

Over USB MegaDrum provides 2 MIDI ports - 'MIDI 1' (the name can very depending on OS) for both In and Out and 'MIDI 2' for both In and Out. One MIDI In/Out pair can be used for controlling from MDM and enother MIDI port is for a soft synth on a PC.

Ok. I was using Midi2In and MIDI2Out on both the MDM and on the PC. I think you're saying to use MIDI In and MIDI Out in MDM and save the MIDI2xxx for the laptop (e.g. Addictive Drums setup). Let me know if I am not understanding right.

Thanks!
