firmware upgrade timeout

I updated my firmware a while ago and it sent my megadrum crazy. So now I want to update the firmware to the latest to see if it'll go sane again. (It's been locked in the cupboard for a while). - So I get the message "update in progress" and it just sits there and sometimes it times out. My question is how long does the update actually take ? I'm suspecting it takes less than 2 seconds when it's really happening but I need to be sure.

Depends on system but it will show visual progress.

I have a fast, modern PC. I'm just trying to establish if we're talking a few minutes or a few seconds. Sorry for my ignorance. I'm imagining that it's actually a tiny little thing being flashed onto a chip, so like less than 5 seconds but I would like confirmation before I continue messing around trying to do the upgrade.

Firmware update takes from ~20s (ARM) to ~40s (Atmega).
