Demo Config for Millenium Ride Cymbal

Hi there,

currently I am struggeling to configure my new "Millenium Ride Cymbal". According to some reports it is a 3way Piezo/Switch/Switch Yamaha Style cymbal.

I read https://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3258 and the megadrum config docs. But all I got triggered is rim/edge regardless where I hit.

Could anyone send me a demo config so that I can guess what is going wrong ? Or give a hint ?

Thx,
TiS

If it is indeed a Yamaha style piezo/switch/switch cymbal the follow https://www.megadrum.info/content/setti ... one-cymbal
If you're still having problems, post a screenshot of settings.

So,

after a few hours and few days I got it working - but only partially.

I cant find a config, were a hit to the bell is detected reliable.

I did it the following way :

1. Adjusted zone 1 (piezo) the normal way
2. Increased threshold for rim/edge until I got false triggers and dampned notes.
3. Decreased threshold until a hit on zone 1 is detected reliable.

Problem is that edge (zone 3) detection is fine, but zone 2 (bell) is sometimes triggered as zone 1 or with low velocity (but all hits then have the same velocity)
I measured the switches and a bell press gives 10kOhm and an edge press gives 1kOHM.

BTW How is zone2/zone3 detection for yamaha-style implemented ? Hit detection by piezo and then evaluation of the state of the switches or detection of a key press and then evaluation of the velocity using the zone 1 piezo ? I wonder about that, because I get false triggers when I increase rim/edge threshold.

thx a lot
Tim

On Yamaha cymbals the edge zone switch is connected over a 10k resistor and the bell switch is connected directly. It is common mechanical problem for the bell zone that it triggers the bow zone when the bell is hit lightly - it means the bell switch doesn't make with light hits.

ok,

that means from your point of view it is HW related and cannot be optimized ? Or is there something I can do about it ?

What still make me curious are the false triggers on high threshold of the switch and the strange behaviour of the velocity.

Some 3 zone cymbals are better then others with the bell zone even if it is the same make/model. I remember seeing somewhere on internet people mechanically fixing the bell zone triggering on both Roland and Yamaha cymbals.
The problem with the velocity is probably due to very low piezo signal. At Gain 7 you have to set HighLevel down to 180 to get full velocity range? Maybe this cymbal has a trimpot to adjust output level just like on Yamaha cymbals?

I disassembled the cymbal and then resoldered the board.

The cymbal had a 100k/66k voltage divider hardwired on the board. I removed that and then I connected the bell switch directly to sleeve and put the 10k resistor in front of the edge switch.

Now the cymbal got the original Yamaha wiring as Dmitri described. Zone 2 / Zone 3 use the correct order - AND IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM ! Only thing is that I get some double / tripple triggers on edge hits as bow with extrem low velocity after 150ms / 250 ms. I just can see them in the MIDI,but not hear them.

Remark : Gain is now 4 / Threshold 24 / High Level 724
