Finger Drumming

This is my version of the DIY pipe bomb trigger.
Which are fairly easy to build and inexpensive too.
Important note! Don't leave lying around these days
Supplies:
1 ea. 8 foot section of 1" pvc pipe.
2 ea. pipe cap ends to go over the ends of your pvc pipe. really cheap!
1 ea. piezo come on ya know where to find them.
1 ea. female audio jack mono or stero
Odd Bits:
Wire
Foam - to stuff inside and isolate everything.
Sheet metal cut into strips to use as a reflective plate.
Flat Black spray paint for plastics - to make your friends say wow!
Estimated Cost: $21.75
Which will yield 17 7" pipebomb triggers.
Here's one mine without the wow! added on.
Sharpie added for scale.
Instructions:
Use a hacksaw to cut pvc into section whatever size you desire.
A miter box is desirable for nice straight ends.
Take a pipe cap cover and drill a hole in it.
I used 3.5mm female audio jacks so a 3/8" drill bit works fine.
Solder piezo to audio jack
Insert audio jack into hole,a couple of whacks with a hammer will lodge the jack in nicely.
It's easy to remove the jack to fix a pesky broken wire.
Cut your foam roughly the diameter of the inside of the pipe.
I used to two flat roughly 5" long pieces to keep it nice and snug.
Cut your sheet metal I did mine 3" long strips for your reflective plate.
Take some double sided tape and sandwich it all together.
Slap some wow! on it "spray paint" and you're good ta go.
At first I tried A bit of mouse pad for a striking surface, but could'nt get the piezo to trigger well.
Instead I used a couple of strips of foam double sided tape and covered that with black electrical tape.
This makes a nice bouncy and quiet surface to bang on.
Not sure about lasting durability but it looks good.
These work great for triggering samples in Battery 3.
Also I have Novakaine's dirt cheap drum pads.
Instructions:
Go to your local hardware store and grab some pipecap ends.
You'll notice a nice perfect round hole there.
That's where the magic happens.
They come in sizes 1" up to 4" maybe even larger.
These are made pretty much like my pipes.
1.Foam mat from walmart 10.00 usd. I assume every country on the planet has at least a hundred of them.
2.Cut into a circle slightly larger than the hole. The mat is 2'x 4' meaning lots of pads.
3.Place piezo behind the pad.
4.Get you some thin sheet metal cut into a square to fit the inside diameter of the cap.
This is your reflective plate.
5.Put a thin piece of mousepad behind that to cut down on false triggering.
6.Attach a simple poker chip behind that for a nice solid base.
7.Drill a hole down the middle to run your piezo's wires.
I mainly designed these for finger drumming and to just trigger my samples in Battery 3.
Good Luck
