wiring pads for future positional sensing?

Postby kurtus420 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 10:54 pm

Hello all, I was wondering if I need to reverse my head piezo like roland wires thier pads to possibly get positional sensing working if (when) it becomes availible.;) I currently have all my diy pads wired, tip to ceramic and sleeve to brass on head piezo, ring to ceramic and sleeve to brass on my rim piezos. Will this alesis style wiring work for positional sensing? Thanks for the input guys!!

Wiring should be reverse to what Roland uses.

so polarity opposite on the rim piezo?

Polarity on a rim piezo doesn't matter.

I'm sorry dimitri, I'm a complete noob here :? Here are a couple of wiring diagrams that I've been looking at. http://www.toontrack.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=36342 I currently have mine wired up to diagram 2. I thought all I would have to do is flip the wiring on my rim piezo to achieve an opposite wiring scheme to what Roland uses, is this not correct?
Thanks again and sorry for the dumb question. Kurt

I believe he is telling you to wire it like the Alesis diagram in that link.

I already wired it like the alesis diagram for my trigger io which i returned to fund my megadrum project. :) I was under the impression that roland reverses the polarity on the head piezo to achieve positional sensing, is this not the case for megadrum?
All I was going to do was take the alesis wiring and flip the rim peizo wiring to achieve a wiring scheme reverse to Roland which is what I assumed dimitri ment? I'm sorry if I'm not explianing myself very well  , thanks for all your guys patiance. :D

The reverse wiring only applies to the head piezo. As I said, polarity of the rim piezo doesn't matter.

I see, Thanks dmitri. So I should just leave it as is, all positives(tip/ring of jack connector) to ceramic of the piezo and all negatives (sleeve of jack connector) to brass of the piezo. Again I'm sorry for being so dense I'm just getting more confused.

Can this reversion - maybe at some point - be achieved with a setting in the MD interface as well? I'd think most people have pads that are wired in the Roland way.
