56 input firmware on a smaller board

I was just wondering what might be the effect of using the 56 input firmware on a 32 input board.

Thinks: If a 20MHz 644 can scan 56 inputs then why would performance suffer if the same firmware was flashed to a 20MHz 32 input board?

On a related question: Does assigning 'disabled' to a note value stop that channel from being sampled, or is it just to stop the MIDI message being transmitted?

Disabling an input (setting Note to 0) excludes the input from sampling.
At the same frequency, each input is scanned more often with 32 inputs firmware than with 56 inputs firmware. Doesn't make any noticeable difference with the "burst" algorithm used in MegaDrum.

If you ripped the xtal detection code from Succ-U-Bus - you could get away with just one HEX per update...
