[SOLVED] MegaDrumManager & MIDIYoke problem (Win7 x64)

Postby Poldi-1 » Tue Nov 22, 2011 8:16 pm

I am using my 56 input module with a new computer now, everything installed from scratch (Win7 x64 Pro). I thought I did everything as on my previous system, but MIDI-Yoke ports don't appear in MDM.
In Superior Drummer 32Bit they show up, in the 64Bits version they do not. Is MDM running at 64 Bits maybe? Or what else can be wrong...?

If you you 32nit Java it runs as 32bits, if it runs as 64bits Java it runs as 64bits. If I remember right there was a quirk in installing MIDI-Yoke on a 64bit Windows.

Hmmm, was it a bit too late for you yesterday maybe? ;) I guess you wanted to say "if you use 32bit java..." 8-)
MIDI-Yoke ports will only be available in 32 bit applications - that's what I got from their website as well. And I got it working like this on my laptop with Win7 x64 pro before.
The javaws.exe is loaded by the MDM shortcut from the C:\Windows\system32 folder, so it should be 32 bits, right? According to google I also tried command line option -d32, but this is not accepted by javaws.exe (looks like its only valid for java.exe)

This shows which Java executable is used by default on my Win7 64 (I use MSYS so you see "/c/" instead of "C:" in the paths):
Code: Select all
$ which java
/c/Windows/system32/java.exe

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.4-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

This shows that the above is the same as the 32bit Java executable:
Code: Select all
$ /c/PROGRAM\ FILES\ \(X86\)/Java/jre6/bin/java.exe -version
java version "1.6.0_29"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_29-b11)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.4-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

This shows what 'version' is printed if I run a 64bit Java executable:
Code: Select all
$ /c/PROGRAM\ FILES/Java/jre6/bin/java.exe -version
java version "1.6.0_23"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_23-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)

And if I run MegaDrumManager under the 64bit Java executable like this:
Code: Select all
$ /c/PROGRAM\ FILES/Java/jre6/bin/java.exe -jar /c/Drum/MegaDrum/MegaDrumManager/MegaDrumManager.jar

I don't see MIDI Yoke ports in the list of MIDI ports.

After some thinking I checked and didn't find any Java folder in Programs(x86).
I had to start a 32bit Browser and download/install Java from there. After pointing the MDM shortcut to the new directory MIDI-Yoke ports showed up in MDM again.
