Questions about Software

Hi everyone.I am quite confused about this.

I have read the topic about software but i have a question maybe its silly but anyway.
As i realized The recomended software are mostly vst plugins.Do these work only with cubase?Is there a software that wont need plugins and its only for this purpose?Just get it and make it work?

P.S.:I have tried edrummonitor but for unknown reason it crashes!so any suggestion is welcome

if you buy something like BFD2 or Superior2 they have stand-alone modes, so you don't have to open cubase or anything else but the program.
Reason is also doable. and Kontakt ... all kinds of stuff out there.

Well i would prefer a freeware sampler much simpler!Perfect quality is not needed!do you have any suuggestions?
