MD and Kontakt 4 inside Cubase 5

So I just got my MD32, LOVING it. Works great with my PDX-6 Roland pad. I bought it so I'd have something to actually play when I do orchestral percussion. Though I am a kit player, I am scoring some films right now.

FRUSTRATED!

Here's the skinny. The pad triggers fine in almost every other piece of software I have, Reason 5, Addictive Drums, as well as other synths. Lots of dynamics, good rolls, not too hot, not too cold.

In Kontakt, it triggers 2 or 3 notes at once. But according to the midi log it's only triggering a single note per hit. So I KNOW it's not the MD. I'm beginning to wonder if Kontakt doesn't know how to deal with a drum trigger. But my keyboard has little pads on it that trigger just fine.

I use a humanize feature in Kontakt that normally would make it sound more natural but because it's apparently playing more than 1 note almost simultaneously it's sounds chorused and metallic.

I've been pulling my hair out for the last few hours trying to solve this.

I know it's not a MD problem but does anyone have any ideas?

Are the notes the same pitch? If they are I had a similar problem using Digital Performer. I control it by using quantization instead of humanize. You will also become an expert at adjusting the values for threshold, gain, retrigger, dyntime, minscan and dynlevel.

Same note, same pitch, exact same time (or at least as instantaneous as serialized MIDI can perform it.)

Yeah, that sounds familiar. You might also have a problem where your sequencer is sending megadrum its own notes. Can you mute midi notes going into megadrum? (i.e. all incoming notes that are NOT in megadrum's midi track). I would also disable midi thru in megadrum when recording with the sequencer. The next step would be to change the values for dynamic threshold, dynamic threshold decay and retrigger in megadrum.

YES!! It was midi routing. Probably some issue with Kontakt and how it connects to Cubase. I just set a dedicated midi channel and the phantom triggers stopped so now I can use humanize and all that happy jazz. Thanks guys!
