Mega Drum Manager Problem

At Dmitri's request I have moved this viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1722 to here.
I won't bore you with the other thread, but basically my MD works but I can't use the MDM to configure it.
Since that last thread I have installed mmj (in addition to the already installed Mandolane SPI).
Now the difference is that I have a new MIDI type called "Megadrum USB MIDI - Megadrum USB MIDI" (yes, it's repeated).
With this selected for both in and out, when I click GET or SEND the red light on the MD now flashes (which it never did before).
It still, however, doesn't show the firmware version (just ?????????).
So not working, but different.
Any help gratefully received, and if you'd rather I posted the contents of that last thread here then I will.
Thanks.

Start from scratch - remove both Mandolane SPI and mmj. Start MDM again, make sure MegaDrum is not shown in the list of available MIDI interfaces and exit. Install mmj and try MDM again.

Removed Mandolane by binning the test programs from the Applications folder and removing the libraries from /applications/library/java/extensions.
Removed mmj by removing the libraries from the same directory (putting them there installed it).
Rebooted my mac.
With no MD plugged in the only midi device in MDM is Realtime Sequencer.
As soon as I plug in the MD via the USB port a new one appears - Megadrum USB MIDI - but (as expected) that one doesn't communicate at all with the MD.
Installing the mmj libraries (by copying them into /applcations/library/java/extensions) creates a new midi device - "Megadrum USB MIDI - Megadrum USB MIDI"
Using this one causes the red light to flash on get & send from the MDM but (as you said) does nothing because it can't fetch the firmware version which stays at ??????????
I can hit the pads and receive the triggers in the MDM midi log.

Seems like either Mandolane SPI or mmj is still somewhere in the system. It should show USB Audio (or something like this without MegaDrum in the name) only.

Doesn't matter. It's just the Sysex MIDI messages which are not being received/transmitted by Java on Mac. All other MIDI messages, including MIDI Note On/Off, will work without third party libraries.

I'm going a bit mental here.
There's no trace of Mandolane that I can find on my system. I ran the uninstaller, removed all files that I could associate with Mandolane, did a sudo find / -name libMan* which returned nothing (I'd even deleted them from the Trash). The mmj libraries are safely tucked up in their zip file in my downloads directory and nowhere else.
Then I rebooted my Mac.
Yet the Megadrum USB MIDI port appears as soon as I plug it in the USB. It doesn't work, of course.
I appreciate your help Dmitri. I'm sure there's things you'd rather be doing on a Saturday.
I just have no idea what to even try now.

Don't know if this helps or not ...
I'm running a MIDI spy on the Megadrum USB "device".
If I click either get or send, a single message TO the megadrum appears, and example of which is below (a GET on Misc) :
00 F0 70 00 01 F7 | p |
The red light flashes on the MD unit - implying but not proving it's seeing something coincident with my request - but I get nothing back.
Is there any way to see on the MD itself the Sysex messages its received and see if they make sense?
I'm clutching, but at least I'm trying...
