Hart dynamics HiHat-Ecymbal II - PIEZO/SWITCH - config probl

Postby andoparseghian » Mon Nov 28, 2011 11:41 pm

Hi Dmitri,

I have a problem to config a hihat Hart Dynamics with my megadrum you built for me.

I have a 12" HiHat-Ecymbal II Bronze ECII-HHB - PIEZO/SWITCH - PIEZO MAIN & SWITCH EDGE.

I'm searching for some months how to config it and I can't fix the problem:
On the edge, I have a buzz (false triggering) all time I bit it. On the bow it's working very well.

At the same time, I can't config the 2 zones (I think maybe the fasle triggering problem on the edge is connected with the 2 zones configuration).

I'll explain you how I config the 2 zones:
on the bow (piezo main) : 'DualHead' to Yes, 'Type' to piezo
on the edge (switch edge): 'type' to switch, Special to Yes, BThreshold: 0

After, for 'Set All EdgeSw', I did what you explain on the doc (press Up to change from No to Yes and then press Right. It then will show 'Working'. Now hit a few times edge zones of all connected piezo/switch). But I'm really not sure about this step.

For some hours I tried all the different configs of Threshold and Retrigger without succes.

And I want to say I put a tripod in the cable for the bow piezo (it's working), and on the edge switch I didn't put a tripod, am I right ?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Bests,

1. Are you sure 12" HiHat-Ecymbal is piezo/(real)switch type cymbal? I.e. when you press the edge switch, a multimeter connected to a sleeve and the ring of the cable from the cymbal shows zero (or close to zero) Ohm?
2. In
on the bow (piezo main) : 'DualHead' to Yes, 'Type' to piezo

On a head/bow inpust there is no 'Type' setting so you've set to piezo something else.

on the edge (switch edge): 'type' to switch, Special to Yes, BThreshold: 0

Why do you set Special to Yes?

Hi,

I have tested the trigger edge with a multimeter and it is strange: I have 5 Ohm and after a bit there not a constant change:
It can be 120 or 30 or 5 Ohm...

And the result is not like the trigger bow.

I did the same test with the trigger edge switch and the result was very clear: at start 5 Ohms and With my fingers after catching the cymbal 0 Ohms.

Now I think maybe the trigger edge of my hihat has a problem and it's for that for all time I hve the buzz and I can config it !

And I want to say that hart dynamics had confirm to me that in this hihat edge trigger is a switch.

I have this hihat for more than 1 year and I think there is this problem from the start...

When the the edge switch is not pressed there should be almost infinite resistance between the sleeve and the the ring. You might have a short either in a cable or in the cymbal.

Is there only 2 type of trigger ? (Piezo or switch ?)
I mean the test of the cymbal switch must be the same of the hihat swift (if it's a switch), right ?

And when I did this test on the sleeve/tip (for the bow piezo), there is no result when I bit the hihat bow, is it normal ?

Excuse me if my questions are a little bit "stupid" ;)

Piezo/switch type dual zone cymbals have a piezo on the bow zone and a switch on the edge zone.

Hi,

When I test with a multimeter, must the result be the same with the switch choke of my crash cymbal and the switch edge of my hihat ???

If both are switches on dual zone cymbals then the results should be the same.

hi,

Ok for now I think more and more that the edge trigger is not working.

Also I wanted to do a other test.

I have deconnected all the cables from the back of the megadrum and put only the snare and my megadrum become "crazy".
The bow of the drum was not working nomaly. Before it was ok.

Also I can say I use the 20110925 firmware. I tried to use the 20111006 firmware but with this, the megadrum was impossible to work.
I sow just now there is a new version, I'll try this on the week end.

I have see sometime my megadrum become crazy and I really don't understand, maybe a soldering problem (but you build this megadrum for me, so I think you test it better than me ;) )

Is there a procedure to do some test of the megadrum to check if all is OK in the megadrum ???

Is it normal that when I put off some cable from the back my megadrum become crazy ???

Please let me know what do you think about that,
Bye,

Sorry, I didn't understand that.

Why?

Make sure you start with default settings, i.e. with AutoloadConf set to No and AltEncoders set to Yes.

Of course I test all the modules before shipping.

Nothing special. I connect a pad to each input and test it.

Is it normal that when I put off some cable from the back my megadrum become crazy ???

What do "put off some cable from the back" and "crazy" mean?
