Positional Sensing Megadrum 32 Addictive Drums

Postby chain » Sat Oct 12, 2013 5:22 pm

Hi
I have configured both addictive drums and megadrum manager for positional sensing but I am not getting it.
I have configured addictive drums using the learn feature on the CC Pos-op and also tried to use the learn snare position controller function.
On the megadrum manager I have tried Pos level 1, 2 and 3.
I always get the same result, the sound that should be happening only near the rim happens all over the snare even on the center,
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

There could be many reasons:

1. Your MegaDrum is without Positional sensing addon.
2. PositionalLow and PositionalHi are not properly adjusted.
3. Your pad doesn't produce signal suitable for positional sending.

I think it might be option nº3 because my snare drum has a single ply mesh head, maybe I need one with two or three plys?
What is best for PS?
Thanks

Hi!

Did you have a PS board installed? It is almost impossible to guess what the problem is without any details.

You need to have one centrally mounted piezo. The ps function is totally dependent on this.

When doing the callibration...relax about AD and MegaDRUM Manager for the moment..and go in to your MD menus...locate the PS settings in the beginning. I am using 1ply's mesh heads, 35 mm piezo triggers from Quartz. So my best values seems to 2. Go in on actual drums PS settings on the MD (could be a bit confusing...but the drums are located in a kind of array in MD/PS menus) and select the high and low PS level and trim the values so you can see the < > carrier move between the LCD edges when hit the drum on the center and on the edge. There are posts available about this how to do it. If you can't get the carrier to move, something is wrong. (I have a value about 11 and 31) The minscan value for that drum needs to be above 50...giving the ps function time to read the position and then the velocity.

If you succeed to make it to move...the you are ready to configure the last step and turn the PS function "on" in AD. The cc channel is always 16 on MD...you can type it in AD. The PS needs to be reversed in AD to get the sound to map right. You will now see in AD, how the midi monitor vill move the midi value for position from closed to open. Good luck!

Best regards

First, You need to have one centrally mounted piezo mounted on a not too small sized drum. Below 10" would be very hard to get PS working. The ps function is totally dependent on this.

If you don't have the extra PS board...then you need to be sure that your piezo first generate a positive wave...in my opionion...very hard to determine...recommendation...get yourself a PS board!

When doing the callibration...relax about AD and MegaDRUM Manager at this stage. Go in to your MD menus...locate the PS settings in the beginning. (I have a value about 11 and 31) The minscan value for that drum needs to be above 50...giving the ps function time to read the position and then the velocity. PS as a function is not an exact science...you will see some jumps...but in general...you will see the trend if hitting the rim/edge or if hitting in the center.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips!
I have PS board installed,
I am using 682 drum triggers, they are like quartz triggers, they are also suspended and only a center trigger with a cone,
I have a 14" snare drum
I am using a single ply mesh but because it retriggered too much I mounted 3 L brackets and have some foam on the edges of the drum pressing against the mesh head, maybee that is what is cancelling the signal?

I am going to try your suggestions,
Thanks

Ok. That's some more information.:-)

I have used the 682DRUMS snare trigger on a 13" snare with PS. In my opinion the best result on this snare was PSPos=2 PSLow=12 and PSHigh=34.

You can find my configuration in the MegaDRUM library found at http://powerhell.wordpress.com/about/zo ... d-library/.

I even think there is a video about this snare when I am testing PS....(One mistake was made on this video ...the sound has not been reversed. You will hear the edge sound when hitting in the center and vice versa...otherwise it works!)

Hi,
Thanks, but I guess I need a new mesh head, with this one the values are very inconsitent!

Ok.

My tests was using a DRUM-TEC PRO 1 PLY Mesh Heads...really tightened...

why did you put a 15K resistor on the trigger?
