Stereo Snare drum trigger settings

Postby JOmgdLAT » Sat Mar 21, 2020 9:35 pm

Hello,

I actually b0ught my Megadrum about 2 years ago, but because I prefered using my free time for preactice insead of tweaking my Settings I never really got to good results and bought a DTX700 module because I have basically only Yamaha pads except for my ATV Ride cymbal which I actually got to work quite nicely.
Because of the current Situation I have more free time than I can practice so I want to use it to get more realistic edrum results.

I dont understand how to set up all three zones of my Snare drum trigger (Yamaha DT50S)
The way I understand it is that if only the head piezo reacts the hhead note will be triggered if only the rim piezo reacts the rimclick note will be triggered and if both respond the rimshot note will be triggered.
The further to the Right the MIdpoint bar is the easier it is to get rimclicks but I have no idea how to separate between rimshots and rimclicks. Is that what the Midpointwidth is for? It didn´t seem to work that way because when I played rimshots it felt quite random wether the rimclick or the rimshot Sound would be triggered.

I attach my Settings for the trigger as a screenshot.
Thanks for your help in Advance.

Hi,
Your snare trigger is known not to be very sensitive
but as i can see your Rim/Edge 3rd Zone Notes
are (possibly) in a wrong order.
I have attached a screenshot from my DrumTec-Snare
which works very well.
6=38 center (I have my 3z PosSens Trigger on 6)
37=SideStick (you have to choose RimClick or SideStick in your software- neither is possible)
40=Rimshot

Dont look at my Threshold/Gain/HighLevel/MinScan/Retrigger-Settings.
Those are individual for every Pad and can not be copied.

Startpoint to set 3rd Zone:
1. MidPoint all to the left and MidPointWidth to Zero.
2. Adjust MidPoint
3. Adjust MidPointWidth
4. Finetuning...

Greetings...

thanks for your Response.

I actually tried out if my notes are in the wrong order.

37 is the sidestick and 40 is the rimshot.

So I wll try to swap them and fine tune the midpoint and midpointwidth with what you gave me to begin with.

edit: When you say you My Trigger isnt very sensitive do you mean that the Overall sensitivity isn`t that great or that the Zone Separation sensitivity isn`t great?
Because I feel like the Overall sensitivity isnt bad at all. Ghost notes and so on are quite nice to get for me.

If anybody is interested These are my Settings now:

As said before I use a Yamaha DT50S. My Meshhead is a drumtec real feel 12".
Another important information is that i moved the trigger from 12 o'clock to somewhere between 1 and 2 o'clock which greatly improved the sensitivity between the zones.

Hi JOmgdLAT,
nice to hear that it works now...
maybe you can tweak your settings to a more sensitive/dynamic behaviour.

Test (Save your working Setting before):
- Raise Head/Bow "Gain" to 4 and Edge to 3
- Enable "HighLevelAuto" and readjust the "HighLevels"
- Disable "HighLevelAuto"
if "HighLevel"-Head between 500 and 1000 ur Snare (possibly) is more responsive.
Perhaps the "Thresholds" must be readjusted.

Greetings.
