Superior issues

Postby hchriste » Fri Feb 20, 2009 6:42 pm

OK. Sorry for the vague subject title, but I dont see other topics that concern Superior Drummer with MegaDrum so thought I would start one.

My first issue has to do with rimshots one the snare. From a certain topic in the hardware section I understod that rimshots should be enabled in latest firmware, but when I test it with Superior Drummer it seems that a rimshot is translated into a closed hihat note. Center and sidestick seems to be working fine. I the instrument pane in Superior I can see that the key for a rimshot is supposed to be E1. Whether this is correct I dont know.
Anyone know what is going on here?

Obviously, the drum midi map in megadrum is different from the drum map in superior. As you can configure both, I don't see the problem.

In Superior options check 'Show midi notes as numbers' so you can better check the midi notes assigned to each subpad, so you can configure megadrum.

Or you can do it the other way. Click on Learn for each subpad an then hit corresponding subpad in megadrum to change Superior's note value for that subpad

Hate to hijack your thread here, but I am also having trouble finding topics that concern SD 2 with megadrum.

MCT is able to see MIDI notes, but not SD. In SD I have selected the Megadrum as a MIDI device by clicking the MIDI menu, then MIDI Device, then USB Audio Device. So SD sees the megadrum as a MIDI device. In MCT I have set the MIDI note of the megadrum input to 38, which corresponds to the snare in SD, but when I hit it, I get no response in SD. I'm thinking that I need to do something else to get SD to recognize the input, but I am at a loss. Can you point me in the right direction?

What host do you use to run SD? Make sure you set midi input correctly

Now that my MD is back up and running and I've completed my first DIY tom I am back at this again. I've tried using both toontrack solo and ableton live to host Superior Drummer, but I can't seem to get MIDI into either program.

Like I said, I am able to see MIDI in MCT, but not in the other two programs. Both Toontrack and Ableton "see" the Megadrum, as it is listed in MIDI input device lists.

Can you tell me what specific settings I should look at in Toontrack?

I use BFD2 and I've noticed that I can't get MIDI from MD throu to BFD2 while MCT is running. I close MCT and restart BFD2 and all is fine. It may be the same issue you're having with SD.

If I start MCT while BFD2 is running I get an error from MCT saying no MIDI input/output is selected, please select etc... after selecting, no MIDI get throu to MCT without closing BFD2 and restarting MCT.

Same thing with MIDI-OX and MCT together.

I guess it could be related to using an ASIO-based soundcard and ASIO by design not being able to handle more than one application at a time.

Only one application at a time can open a USB MIDI devices when used with a standard Windows driver. Windows uses a standard USB MIDI driver for class compliant USB MIDI devices, including MegaDrum.
As a result only one application at a time can use MegaDrum MIDI. I'll add this to MegaDrum FAQ. There is a workaround for this if you want to use MCT and any other application accessing MegaDrum at the same time. It will involve using MIDI-OX to do MIDI routing and virtual MIDI ports, e.g. MIDI Yoke. I'll try to describe it later.
