New User Mega Drum Questions

I just bought a Mega Drum build from Dmitri 20MHz. And it is Atmega644 based. I believe it is a 32 input. I am using Roland Pads (the td10 set) and smartrigger cymbals.

1. So I have hooked it up and seems to read the toms, snare, and kick. Kick seems really really low in superior.
How would I fix the volume level on the kick?

2. I have a vh-12 for the hat? Any input on how I get that configured correctly. Right now it is just closed sounds no opening or closing

3. I tried to update megadrum via config tool but doesnt seem to push through. I followed the instructions. Hold the left button press once up and then down. Then try to send the update. Nothing.

4. Also when I hit the pads I see no movement in the config tool to try and set parameters?

Any help on this or links to read would be so helpful!!! THanks so much!

First of all, did you read through http://www.megadrum.info/content/megadrum-configuration?
Did you try to adjust any settings for the kick? What settings did you try to adjust? List your settings for the kick.

2. I have a vh-12 for the hat? Any input on how I get that configured correctly. Right now it is just closed sounds no opening or closing

Is the rightmost switch on the front in the UP position? (It has 3 positions: UP - low impedance HH pedal, MIDDLE - not used, DOWN - high impedance HH pedal)
Did you try to adjust any settings for the HH pedal? What settings did you try to adjust? List your settings for the HH pedal.

Do not update the firmware now. The firmware update in MCT is a bit broken at the moment. You can update the firmware with MIDI-OX as described here: http://www.megadrum.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=622

4. Also when I hit the pads I see no movement in the config tool to try and set parameters?

Sorry, I didn't get this question.

Any help on this or links to read would be so helpful!!! THanks so much!

You can find help on using MCT at http://www.megadrum.info/configtool/

Midi Monitor -> I am trying to use this on the megadrum config tool Input Output is USB Audio Device and I am not getting any midi log or pad hit velocity?? I was hoping to configure everything in the megadrum. Is something set up wrong because it seems I can send to megadrum without erroring out?

Any ideas why there is no midi log activity in the config tool?

Before you said MIDI was working. Did you change anything?

1. Can you try MCT on another computer?
2. Instead of MCT try MIDI-OX. Make sure you select USB Audio as MIDI-In and DO NOT select USB Audio as MIDI Out in MIDI-OX.

ok i have midi working!!

with the kick drum i was getting readings of 2 , 12, 24 (cold pad)

with snare i am getting 127, 127 (hot pad) on each hit ..so im figuring I have to now go in and start editing ;)

sooooo...

1. I have read through the documentation but would like some more info on the hit level curve..what are the differences between all the picks (linear, log, strong1)?

These are excerpts Alesis/Rolands manuals explaining velocity curves. The explanations apply to MegaDrum too.

Uhu, nice to know! and Spline is in MD termed s1-s2? and loud must be the MD Strong1-2?

That is correct.
Also you must keep in mind that curves are applied to voltage coming from pads but that the voltage coming out of pads is not necessarily linearly depends on hits strength.

When comparing the Alesis and Roland graphs it looks like they have a different implementation for the spline.

Which one is implemented by Megadrum ?

S1 as in Alesis and S2 as in Roland.
