Megadrum Config Tool FEATURE REQUESTS

Postby elrules » Tue May 05, 2009 9:26 pm

I will start this thread to have all of the features that will be included in future versions of MCT. You can feel free to post your ideas. Besides, when someone comes up with a nice way of sharing/joining efforts for the development, then I will publish the source code of MCT.

Features requested (that sound nice to include):

+ Firmware updating platform independent
+ Full Mac OS support

+ Manage better the syx configs that changed between versions of MD

+ Aftertouch mapping (being able to map aftertouch events to note events, so you can choke cymbals with some samplers as Addictive Drums)
+ Editing of drum maps more intuitive, maybe with a separated screen

+ More intuitive configuration:
___ * Add presets for various pads and cymbals
___ * Illustrate the trigger settings pictorially (window that shows what you are changing, and how it affects the triggering)
___ * Include a Wizard to configure each pad, with explanations of each parameter

The rest of the features that were before in this list have been implemented in version 1.8 of MCT ;)
I leave these features in the list for the next version (1.9)

Take a look at fuzzysnuggleduck's suggestion in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=728 - I don't know about Sourceforge, but a project hosted by Google Code, for example, is easy to set up. If you have questions about code version control with SVN, give me a shout, I use it on a daily basis.

Recommendable SVN clients for Windows and Mac OS X are TortoiseSVN and SCPlugin, respectively. If you're working with Eclipse or Netbeans, there is a seamless SVN integration available for both those IDEs as well.

Hello.
I'm new to this forum but I've heard there are problems with using the MCT on a mac. Is this still an issue?
I'd like to build the megadrum, but if there are too many problems with using a mac, I don't know if I should put so much time in building a module myself. It would be so nice to have one working though..

+ Send parameter changes as soon as the mouse button is released from the control (without using a 'To MD' button) - this would need an 'Undo' option - ie on pad before you buggered it up and a global undo (revert to startup) for the entire current session.

+ Illustrate the trigger settings pictorially - this is a big one but I'm going to suggest it because it would be a way out of RTFM. So a real time parametric graph (something like a oscilloscope display of a trigger signal) with lines indicating the current settings overlayed onto it. Eg. a horizontal line moving up or down would show the current threshold setting.

+ If Dmitri implemented a 'Quick Access' SysEx message to be sent from the firmware then MCT could auto-select the pad parameter screen (maybe with an image of the physical LCD screen too).

You don't need MCT to have a fully working MegaDrum. I use the Synthex v2.7 kit with a mac and it works 100%. MCT has some troubles sending configs to the MegaDrum last time I checked (v1.5) but it's not a show stopper as far as using the MegaDrum.

Other people also requested this. It can be added as an option to enable it or not ("Send Configs on the fly" or something like that). Adding an Undo function is a bit excesive for this kindof simple application MCT is. Taking into account that you can change values click by click with the spinners, Undo would become useless

Can you explain this a bit more? sounds interesting but i don't get it

There is already something like that implemented. You can enable Quick Access in the Options of MCT, and set the threshold for that effect

Wel well well, I see all Mac users rushed into this thread
I'm with you guys!!

I'm starting to have "finger-ache" from having to press the MD buttons 12313012938 times a week! And watch out if you need to adjust tom4 Retrigger and then wonder how the snare's Retrigger was configured... very painfull.
I'd prefer to use a mouse and not care about having to overwrite my current 2 precious configs.

Look for this setting in the beginning of MD's config:
<Quick Access >
When set to Yes you can quickly jump between inputs in the Menu rather than navigate to each input using LEFT/RIGHT keys. First enter the Menu, then press the HiHat pedal and then hit a pad you want to configure. Whenever you hit another pad while still holding the HiHat pedal pressed and still in the Menu, it will jump to the last hit pad input.

The best thing is it jumps to the same setting on a different pad. Eg. if you are at Tom4 Retrigger and wonder what Snare Retrigger is set to; just step on the HHpedal, hit the snare and there you are at Snare Retrigger. Step on HHpedal, hit Tom4 and you're back.

Quick access is very cool.

And back on the subject:

- To use both note name and MIDI note number. (eg. D2-38), or just a switch between them if adding extra digits means redoing the whole interface.

MIDI Monitor:
- For instant xtalk spotting - an option similar to this 'HOLD NOTE' Image but instead of removing all other notes, it simply colors them very distinctly, eg. red.

- For instant retrigger spotting - show the time gap between hits in a number above the note bar. Could be capped at 100 millisec. and show values above as +100.

I have zero knowledge of programing and therefore no way of telling if these wishes are silly or sane.
