Questions concerning MidiOx and MCT

Postby jman 31 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 9:22 pm

Question1: In MidiOx I get drum sounds. Is that a feature of MidiOx or am I getting those from somewhere else?

Question 2: In MCT the Midi gauge shows that my cymbal choke is choking, but I get no choke on the sound. How do I set that up? I don't see any settings for that.

Thanks

MIDI-OX doesn't produce any sound. It is meant for routing/monitoring/filtering MIDI messages.

MegaDrum sends an aftertouch MIDI message when a cymbal is choked. It is a duty of a sound module/soft synthesizer to interpret it as a choke and mute related sounds.

Thanks Dmitri. Any idea why I am getting drum sounds with no programs open? Unless something is running in the background...

You probably have either the sound card's hardware MIDI or Windows software MIDI synthesizer as as a default MIDI output device.

OK, thanks. That makes sense. I guess I better try to figure it out. I appreciate the help Dmitri!

About the chokes, it depends on which VST you are using. If using Addictive drums, chokes are triggered with midi notes and not with aftertouch events. (next version of MCT will have aftertouch mapping for Addictive Drums)

If using Superior Drummer 2.0, you need to configure the cymbals to accept aftertouch messages. Enable Envelope for the cymbal, check Aftertouch, and move the points of the graph to achieve the effect

If you're using BFD2, you should enable the 'Choke with aftertouch' setting in the MIDI preferences. Also, aftertouch choking only works on cymbals in actual cymbal slots. Bass-, SD-, tom-slots etc. doesn't support aftertouch.
